I have experienced the “spirit” of the Memorial Union, as both an employee and a student. I first started working at Bites fall term of my sophomore year of school, but have spent much of my time in the MU just as a regular everyday student since the start of my academic career here at Oregon State University. The one thing that I have enjoyed the most about the MU is the way it brings people together, and I have experienced this through work and being a student.
I have experienced people coming together in the MU through my job at Bites. I have met new people just by working there, including staff as well as students. The staff at Bites, including myself, are all about customer service, and really getting to know each and every person that comes into our store. I now know more people through my job at Bites and it has brought a diverse group of us together.
I have also experienced people coming together as a regular student in the MU outside of work. It’s a common meeting place in the heart of the OSU campus for friends to chat over lunch in the commons, grab coffee up at JavaStop, or bump into each other while looking for an item offered in the Bookstore. Not only that, but also an area where on campus groups can meet for formal or informal meetings, as well as the put on by the MUPC. All these things are what make the MU such a meaningful place at OSU, and I feel that the “spirit” of the MU to me is the sense of bringing people together as it has done for me in the past years. |
