Decorations play a huge roll in conveying the feel and mood of your event. Decorations are also a great way of presenting the culture of a country or the theme of an event. Decoration can be as simple or extravagant as you wish. To assist you in preparing decoration for your event, please follow these guidelines:
- The Memorial Union (MU) will provide tape to hang decorations
- No tacks, staples, or nails may be sued to secure decorations to any surface
- All decorated cardboards (I.E. backdrops) must be flame resistant (latex paint used to decorate will work)
- Nothing may be hung from or attached to the drapery on the Ballroom stage
- Eye hooks are located along the beams in the ceiling to attach decorations
- A pipe is located above the stage to attach backdrops
- The MU does not provide helium for balloons; helium tanks may be rented from Special Occasions
- Dining and buffet tables must be covered, either with a table cloth or plastic sheeting
- All exit doors, exit lights, fire sprinkler heads, fire alarm pull stations and fire extinguisher locations must be kept free of obstacles or decorative material
- A fire permit is required to use candles in decorations
- No open flames (i.e. torches) may be lit as part of decoration
- Do not use straw or other dry plant material. Corn husk decorations can be used if they have been flame-retardent treated using a commercial solution
